About the Coexistence Consortium

The Coexistence Consortium is a group of ecologists, anthropologists, geographers and conservationists who have come together to promote the idea of coexistence. Coexistence is an attempt to rethink the dominant conservation paradigm: not just protecting wild animals in far-off isolated pockets of wilderness habitats, but living well with the animals and nature around us, everywhere.

About the Champions Programme

Across India, thousands of people coexist with other beings every day. Forest dwellers, pastoralists, fishers, farmers, educators, forest staff, storytellers, healers and community leaders negotiate shared spaces with wild animals through empathy, resilience, reciprocity and respect, even if they don't always call it conservation.

The Coexistence Champions Programme exists to empower, celebrate and amplify this lived coexistence. It supports grounded, place-based practitioners who are already leading the change. The first two cohorts of Champions work across India's diverse socio-ecological and cultural landscapes. Storytelling and outreach sit at the heart of the programme, because changing the conservation paradigm means reshaping the mainstream narrative from ground up, in the voices of the people living it.

About the role

We're looking for a Communications Coordinator to run the day-to-day communications of the Champions Programme. We are looking for someone who comes with a strong social-media design profile. You'll work closely with the Communications Co-Leads, who set strategy and editorial direction. Your job is to keep the programme's communications moving smoothly and consistently, and to stay in regular contact with the Champions so that their stories reach wider audiences.

Core responsibilities

  • Collect posts, photographs and field updates from Champions, and follow up on permissions and credits before anything is published.

  • Upload and schedule social media posts, drafting captions and adapting content for different platforms, including the programme's LinkedIn page.

  • Manage the Consortium's YouTube channel for the programme, including uploading videos, writing titles and descriptions, organising playlists and keeping the channel regularly updated.

  • Schedule and support a monthly meeting with each Champion to check in on their work, gather story ideas and plan upcoming content together.

  • Keep an organised content calendar and asset library, and share a short monthly summary of engagement and what's working.

  • Keep the Champions pages on the Consortium website up to date, including Champion profiles, programme news and new content.

Support responsibilities

  • Support and prepare the outreach strategy with the Communications Co-Lead and the Champions.

  • Coordinate and draft the programme newsletter bi-annually, pulling together updates from across the Champions network.

  • Support the Coexistence in Practice series, from sourcing stories and speakers to coordinating contributions and publishing.

What we're looking for

  • Experience in communications, ideally in conservation, environment, development and/or the non-profit sector.

  • Clear, emphathetic writing in English, with the ability to adapt tone for reports, social media and community audiences. Working knowledge of Hindi and/or another Indian language is a strong advantage.

  • High-level of comfort in managing social media accounts and scheduling tools, plus  design skills (Canva, Adobe or tools to work on reels).

  • Strong editing skills and the ability to give constructive feedback to contributors who may not be professional writers.

  • Strong organisation and follow-through, including the ability to manage recurring deadlines independently.

  • A commitment to respectful, non-extractive storytelling, with care around consent, attributing credit and how communities and practitioners are represented.

  • A genuine interest in coexistence and in amplifying diverse knowledge systems, including Indigenous and local ecological knowledge.

Nice to have

  • Experience with managing a YouTube channel, or basic photo and video editing skills.

  • Familiarity with working alongside field teams or community networks.

  • Experience in writing for multilingual or regional audiences.
